Privacy Policy

Overview

ZeroUnread is an Android app that helps Gmail users reach “Inbox Zero” by bulk-managing unread emails and unsubscribing from unwanted newsletters. It is designed so that your email data never leaves your device except for direct, encrypted communication between your device and Google’s Gmail API.

Google User Data: What We Access and Why

ZeroUnread requests one Gmail permission: “View and modify but not delete your email” (gmail.modify). This is the minimum Google permission that allows marking emails as read or unread. With it, the app accesses only:

• Email counts — unread/read totals for the filters you choose
• Labels — read/unread state and Gmail category tabs
• Message metadata headers — sender name/address and the List-Unsubscribe headers that power the Subscriptions feature

The app never reads email subject lines, bodies, or attachments, and it contains no code that deletes, archives, or sends email.

Limited Use disclosure

ZeroUnread’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google user data is used only to provide the app’s user-facing features described above; it is never transferred to or stored on any server, never used for advertising, and never read by humans.

Where Your Data Lives

Everything the app stores stays on your device, in app-private storage:

• OAuth access token and account email — encrypted with Android Keystore (AES-256 GCM). Never transmitted anywhere except directly to Google’s APIs.
• Unsubscribe history, muted senders, auto-mark rules, cached counts — app-private on-device storage holding only sender addresses, timestamps, and your own settings, never email content.

We operate no servers. There is no account with us, no analytics service, and no crash-reporting service in this version of the app.

What We Never Do

• Read your email content (subjects, bodies, attachments)
• Delete, archive, or send email
• Store your data on any server
• Share, sell, or monetize your data
• Show ads or use your data for advertising

Data Security

• Tokens encrypted at rest via Android Keystore (AES-256 GCM)
• HTTPS-only communication; tokens are never placed in URLs or logs
• Device backups exclude all tokens and account data (only your theme preference is backed up)
• One-click unsubscribe requests go directly to the sender’s server and never include your Gmail credentials

Data Deletion

Disconnect Gmail in Settings → Disconnect at any time. This:

• Revokes the app’s access token with Google — the app can no longer access your account
• Deletes everything the app stored — your access token and account email, unsubscribe history, muted senders, auto-mark rules, and cached counts

You can also revoke access from your Google Account at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Uninstalling the app deletes all app-private data as well.

Your Rights

Because ZeroUnread stores nothing on any server, you exercise every data right directly and immediately, without needing to contact us:

• Access / portability — the only data that exists is on your device, in the app’s own screens
• Deletion — Settings → Disconnect, or uninstall the app
• Withdrawing consent — revoke the app’s Gmail access at any time from your Google Account

Feedback

If you use Settings → Send feedback, your device’s email app opens with a draft addressed to us that includes the app version and Android version. Nothing is sent unless you choose to send it.

Children

ZeroUnread is not directed at children under 13 and requires a Google account.

Third-Party Services

• Google Gmail API — the app’s only network destination for your data (Google’s Privacy Policy applies)
• Newsletter senders’ unsubscribe endpoints — contacted only when you explicitly confirm an unsubscribe, and only with the standard one-click unsubscribe request

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy; changes will be reflected in the date above. If a future version of the app adds any data collection (for example, crash reporting), this policy will be updated first and the change noted in the app’s release notes.
